Strategic Advice and Research

MALTHUS GLOBAL offers unique support to build a solid value proposition to engage with governments, communities and key stakeholders.

Our 20+years of international experience across Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific offer a cutting-edge approach to connecting business objectives to society expectations and growth opportunities.

Our strategic advice and research cover:

Malthus Global goes beyond the traditional analysis of direct effects in terms of macroeconomic and regional effects, taxes, employment and local procurement. We work to understand the outcomes and development implications considering different local socioeconomic scenarios.

In developing countries, the extractive industry can make a significant development contribution in terms of poverty reduction, transfer of technology and fiscal incomes. However, the limited information regarding these expected outcomes is also an important source of conflict between the extractive activities and host communities and governments.

Development Studies

Without a doubt, expectations and demands are growing and evolving across a diverse range of development dimensions. Some of these are legitimate—and the extractive sector is actively working to address the associated challenges. However, others are driven by a growing political narrative supported by hidden radical agendas.

The extractive sector is facing a new and complex global political narrative that challenges not only the industry itself but also the foundations of democratic systems.

We analyse these expectations and demands, global trends, and potential negative impacts in order to build strong relationships between the industry and its stakeholders

Global Challenges

The relationship and trust among corporations, governments and stakeholders have never been more critical. Activists and politicians can damage the ‘social licence to operate and block the projects in a few weeks.

Currently, short-term approaches, lobby strategies and communication campaigns do not contribute to reducing the business risk and creating lasting relationships.

Our focus on creating corporate affairs strategies to protect reputation and business risk is based on creating value propositions to connect businesses opportunities with the stakeholders’ expectations.

Reporting

Public reporting and preparing information and external document for the stakeholders is critical. Malthus Global can evaluate and contrast the reporting best practices with stakeholders expectations and demands.

During the last decades, the reporting of large corporations have evolved to include sophisticated reporting parameters and metrics following international best practices. However, there is still a significant gap between corporate reporting and stakeholder expectations.

Some international standards and reporting indicators are highly disconnected from the local reality and have become in problem to communicate key aspects of the corporate contributions.

Policy and regulatory framework analysis is a fundamental task to reduce business risks. Our approach supports an evaluation to understand if the current policies and regulatory framework facilitate (or not) the contribution to the development and growth.
