Independent research to reinforce the discussion of the extractive industry contribution to economic growth and socioeconomic development.

MALTHUS GLOBAL is working to transform extractive industry opportunities into economic growth and socioeconomic development.

MALTHUS GLOBAL focus its work on independent research and strategic advice to reinforce the discussion of the extractive industry contribution to the development in resource-rich regions and countries.

We think the industry is facing extremely complex scenarios for the development of its projects and activities. While some difficulties are related to effective technical solutions, others are highly connected to the complexity of evolving challenges and stakeholders’ expectations.

The global political agenda is influencing the decision-making process of policymakers and the opinion of key stakeholders. The effort in terms of best practices, corporate policies, standards, sophisticated engagement process with communities, and the promotion of positive socio-economic impacts are not enough to maintain a healthy social license to operate. The socio-environmental and political conflicts, project disruptions and endless court & legal challenges affect cash flows and future financial returns.

Malthus Global goes beyond the traditional scope of analysis and works to build a solid value proposition and address development challenges.

Our Purpose

Malthus Global (Initially Consultora Malthus) was established in 2002 in Chile to deliver socio-economic impact and corporate affairs support for the mining and energy industries in Latin America.

We have collaborated with large mining companies, governments, development institutions, research centres and communities. We know how the extractive industry discussion has evolved and what is important and relevant to build a solid value proposition.

We have engaged with local stakeholders and communities across Africa, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific to understand the connections between the industry and expectations.

20+ years of collaboration with large mining companies, development institutions, research centres and civil society groups.
